Essendon vs Richmond
Live upstairs in the Function Room at the Directors Hotel
Telecast starts at 7:00pm (SA time), Game time 7:20pm
Relief, surprise and
disappointment that is how I would describe the last 3 games.
Going back to the Gold
Coast game, what a great turn out of Essendon supporters there was to see
Fletch play his 350th game and for a short while it looked as if
it would end the same way as his 250 and 300 games did – with a
loss on the road.
Although we started the
game conceding the first goal it was all Essendon from there on in during
the first quarter. What kept the
Gold Coast in the game was bad kicking for goal and Gary Ablett, but slowly
as the rain started to fall the Gold Coast and Ablett started to create
loose players and open us up on the outer wing, this with the weather and
some players failure to adapt to the conditions left us trailing going into
the last quarter. I will put up my
hand and say that I had given up and looking at the surrounding faces, I
wasn’t the only one, excuses for the loss were coming to mind, like the
early loss through injury of Dempsey left us down in the attacking half back
but also rotations of the bench was thrown in to disarray or we could not
stop Ablett?
BUT,
the boys dug deep and eroded the Gold
Coasts lead in a matter of minutes. Goals
from Hurley, Jetta and a great 50 metre banana from Patty Ryder enabled us
to walk away from our first journey to Metricon Stadium undefeated.
Players that I thought did well was
Watson, Howlett, Jetta, Davey and Crameri.

Directors Hotel
This has proven a hit with
our supporters with numbers growing over the last 3 games, our next function
game will be against Richmond in the DREAMTIME game on the 19th
May, but if you can’t wait that long you are always welcome at the
Directors. I know there are a
few guys going down to watch the Brisbane game this week on Saturday
afternoon. We will look at
adding games this year if the demand is there and look at next year doing
every game, and please remember to sign our loyalty book when you come down,
the more games you attend the more chance of winning some signed memorabilia
(the loyalty book will only be there on games we have designated as function
game a, a list of these can be found on the website).
Facebook
We present have 61 friends
on our Facebook Page, we would like to have as many as possible, so if you
could have a look and click that you like our page that would be fantastic.
Facebook is a quick way of getting
out information in the shortest time especially around the time when
Essendon plays in Adelaide, function details and anything in general; also
we would like feedback from members on how we can improve your experience at
being a SA Bombers Member.

Mission # 2 Port Adelaide
Mission completed SUCSSESFULY!!! I don’t know about you but I thought
this game was very similar to the North game. We played a lesser
opponent and kept them in the game with some shabby field kicking and one
quarter of poor kicking for goal, earlier this year Hirdy said that we were
able to keep up with the good sides for two to two and a half
quarters…..well we have improved on that. We have taken it to three
quarters, maybe fatigue has caused that one quarter of erratic kicking.
I do rate North as a good side and they will cause upsets throughout the
year but in my opinion we should have been comfortable victors by 30 to 40
points – not last kick of the day. As for Port, if 1.7 in the third
quarter was 5.3 then we would have been looking at a 10 goal plus victory
even with 3 injuries. But why be negative when we are 2-0 and
journeying up to the Gold Coast……
In everyone’s eyes this should be a sure bet, after all we completely
dominated this side last year to the tune of 130 odd points, there is no
possible way we could lose this. I had to laugh the other day watching
Jake Melksham being interviewed and listen to him describe the Gold Coast as
a “great side” a little bit premature I think. The only thing to be in
the Suns favour is that we are on the road, other than that we should record
our third victory and gain a bit of percentage along the way. It is
not ideal that we will have at least four changes to this week’s side but
Bellchambers, Hocking, Hooker and I think Remo will be itching to get back
into the side and a good performance this week will give us momentum and
confidence to go into our next two BIG games.
My tip: ESSENDON by 78 points
Thank you to Peter, Brett and Adrian for sending in photos of themselves or
their children with their Bomber Hero’s – don’t be shy, send your photos
with the players or in your Bomber gear direct to me (bradleej@adam.com.au)
so we can put them in our photo album.
One week to go until we draw the first raffle of the year, so if you are
intending on sending back your tickets, time is running
out……..Will be drawn after the Carlton game at the Directors Hotel.
It looks like we have a venue for our Port Pirie adventure; more details
will be released when they come to hand…….

Mission #1
North Melbourne
Well here we are again, only days away from the opening bounce for
2012, and first up the Kangaroos. On paper any Essendon supporter
would say “chalk this one down in the win column" as North is one of a group
of teams that we expect to beat, but this has not been the case of late.
Is it a case of underestimating your opponent, I think it has been in the
past, I think we have trouble approaching a game against North, Richmond and
Melbourne with the same intensity as a Collingwood, Carlton and Saint Kilda.
We have had 5 ½ months to focus on this first round and if we are to improve
on eighth spot we should come out breathing fire as North are eyeing our
spot in the eight......
North may not be a team of big names but they do have players that
can cut you up, in the mid field Hocking and Howlett will have their hands
full keeping the ball away from Swallow, Ziebell and Harvey. Our
ruckman must give Watson and Zacha first use of the ball to give Hurley,
Monfries, Crameri and Ryder one on one opportunities. North also have
players to stop up forward - Drew Petrie leads the pack and their small
forwards in Thomas and Wells could blow the game open if allowed, so it
looks to me nothing short of a complete team effort is what is required.
This should be a cracker of a game, the team with the better functioning
defence will win this and in my biased opinion it will be the likes of
Hooker. Pears, Hardingham, Fletcher and Dempsey that will prevail.
Don’t be surprised to see Jetta lining up deep in defence to give us that
line breaking run. MY TIP: ESSENDON by 11 points
If you are at a loss for
where to what the match from, come and join the SA Bombers at the Directors
Hotel, this is our first game there and we are hoping for good support.
Jeff and Clive from the Committee will be your hosts, they will be
conducting the first goal raffle, and collecting all your names to go into
our loyalty draw at the end of the season
GO

The
BIG NEWS
for this upcoming Season is that the SA Bombers will be moving from the West
Adelaide Football Club to our new home at the:
Directors Hotel
247 Gouger Street, Adelaide
Why are we moving? Quite frankly a lack of numbers over the last 2
seasons has made it clear that as a venue Westies didn’t attract the Bomber
faithful. This could be due to a number of reasons, such as it wasn’t
easily accessible by public transport, plus Friday nights will now be live
and at Westies we weren’t guaranteed a room to watch it.
Effective from Round 1 we will be at The Directors, we will either be in the
front bar or upstairs in the Function Room – either way we are able to
decorate the room in
Red
+ Black,
hang up some flags and pictures.
We have decided that we will meet at The Directors Hotel for 10 games this
year, one being Anzac Day, where we will share the venue with the
Collingwood Supporters Group; this should make for a great atmosphere and
give it that big game feeling. A list of all 10 games will follow
shortly on this Website and in our Newsletter that will be sent out to our
Members within the next 3 weeks.
We do need your help to spread the word to fellow Bomber Fans and if you
have any flags or pictures that you could donate to help make The Directors
the Essendon Clubhouse in SA that would be great. I can only ask that
you come and give The Directors a go, I think we can make this in to
something exciting and get back to the days when the ESSENDON supporters all
came together as a group to watch and cheer on
THE MIGHTY BOMBERS!!!
